Historic Deal to Safeguard Yellow Sea is Made
Millions of people whose food security and livelihoods depend on the natural resources of the Yellow Sea stand to benefit from new cooperation efforts between the region’s governments to restore this highly degraded ecosystem.

Outcome achievements of 84 percent of completed GEF projects reviewed since fiscal 2005 were rated moderately satisfactory or above, representing $1.13 million of GEF financing. This long-term average is based on project evaluations completed by GEF agencies and confirmed by the evaluation offices of the Agencies.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the GEF organized a gala reception on the eve of the 40th meeting of the GEF Council.
Washington DC, May 6, 2011 –On April 29, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) endorsed a $3.88 million grant to restore productive capacity of critical watersheds, enhance biodiversity conservation and protected area networks and reduce poverty of dependent communities in selected watersheds in the Philippines. It is being implemented by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and includes cofinancing of $103 million.

On 11 April 2011, the five Tisza River Basin countries Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine entered a new stage in joint water management to ensure good water quality. In the course of a Ministerial Meeting held in Uzhgorod (Ukraine), a management plan was signed that commits the five countries to further cooperation in their efforts to protect the valuable environment of the basin.
