In Central Africa, several projects have been developed under the Strategic Program on Sustainable Forest Management for the Congo Basin. The program was built around three main focal points: the conservation of biodiversity hotspots, sustainable forest management outside protected areas, and the reinforcement of capacities supporting innovative financing mechanisms.

Cambodia is an agriculture-based society where some 72 percent of its 13.4 million people are rice farmers. For generations, rice farming has often been subjected to the forces of nature like floods and droughts.

The LDCF-funded climate change adaptation project aims to counter the potential agriculture risks caused by climate change by working with the local research institutions and farmers in testing and promoting rice varieties that can stand with drought or floods up to 12 days.

KIGALI, Rwanda – On February 28, Ms. Marisa Lago, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Markets and Development, toured a project led by women and financed by the Global Environment Facility’s Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP) in Rwanda. The project is introducing alternative energy sources to wood fuel as a response to climate change and deforestation while improving the livelihoods of the community.
