Removing Barriers to the Increased Use of Biomass as an Energy Source

Project Summary

The project will help the Government of Slovenia to achieve GHG mitigation targets specified in preliminary results of a GEF sponsored Enabling Activity. It is expected that the removal of technical, institutional, information, and financial barriers to increased use of biomass as an energy source will lead to expeditious growth of the market for biomass co-generation technologies. The following specific objectives will be pursued with the GEF project: (a) reduction of implementation costs for biomass based district heating, b) improvement of boiler efficiency; (c) training of local professionals in installing, operating and servicing relevant installations, (d) establishment of long term financing mechanisms to enable investments in biomass technology, (e) increased use of biomass for co-generation.(d) a cross sectorial national program to promote widespread replication
