OECS Protected Areas and Associated Sustainable Livelihoods
Project Summary
The development objective of the project is to contribute to the economic development of the Small Island Development States (SIDS) of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) region through (I) the strengthening of existing and the creation of new protected areas; and (b) providing environmentally sustainable economic opportunities for communities living in the surrounding areas. This will be accomplished by: (I) improving the relevant, policy regulatory, and institutional arrangements in the participating countries; (b) establishing or strengthening a number of demonstration PAs including providing support for the development of new and alternative livelihoods for communities living in the proximity of these sites; and (c) improving institutional capacity to manage PAs in the region.
