Initial assistance to Morocco to meet its obligations under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

Project Summary

The objective of this Enabling Activity (EA) is to create sustainable capacity and ownership in Morocco to meet the country’s obligations under the Stockholm Convention, including initial preparation of a POPs National Implementation Plan (NIP). The NIP will describe how Morocco will meet its obligations under the Convention to phase-out POPs sources and remediate POPs contaminated sites in the country. By facilitating dialogue, information exchange and co-operation between relevant stakeholders - including the governmental, non-governmental, academic and private sectors - the EA will help to raise awareness and knowledge of POPs related issues in Morocco. As a result, these issues will be better taken into account in planning and strategy formulation for different economic and technical sectors. Finally, the EA will strengthen Morocco’s role in international scientific forums and the negotiation process related to POPs.
