Lake Skader-Shkoder Integrated Ecosystem Management
Project Summary
The overall objective of the project would be to assist the Governments of Albania and Montenegro in achieving a more sustainable use of the natural resources of the Lake Shkoder and its watershed. The global environmental objective of the project is to reduce pollution and conserve the lake and its biodiversity as an internationally important nature habitat for different flora and fauna species, especially for waterfowl birds. The project will achieve its objectives by implementing priority measures as identified in the Lake Skhoder Strategic Action Plan that will be prepared within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently signed by the two countries . The MoU commits both countries to conserve the natural resources of the Lake Shkoder in a coordinated and integrated manner, by establishing a bi-national Lake Management Commission and by improving the relevant national level regulatory and institutional capacity. The Memorandum obliges the riparian countries to prepare a Strategic Action Plan (SAP) for the protection of the Lake Shkoder Ecosystem ( to be prepared during the PDF-B).
