Initial Assistance to Enable Honduras to Fulfill Its Obligations Under the Stockholm Convention

Project Summary

The objective of the project is to identify means to support Honduras’ own sustained capacity to fulfill its obligations in the context of the Stockholm Convention, including the preparation of a National Implementation Plan focused on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), that will more widely cover aspects important to the safe and environmentally sound management of chemicals and wastes, as called for in Chapters 19 and 20 of Agenda 21. The National Implementation Plan will describe how Honduras will fulfill its obligations under the Convention to eliminate POP sources (unintentional byproducts, as well as stocks of pesticides and PCBs) and carry out environmentally sound management of contaminated sites that pose high risks for health and the environment, with a regional perspective.
