Agricultural Development and Rural Road Rehabilitation Project
Project Summary
The GEF project will be developed as a "fully blended" GEF component of the Agricultural and Rural Roads Project (PO 95251) which is under preparation. The development objective of the proposed Agricultural and Rural Roads Project is to contribute to the diversification of the oil-dominated economy of the Republic of Congo by supporting the development of alternative economic activities in rural and urban areas.1 May 2006The primary objective of the IDA project is to support the government's effort to increase the production efficiency and the income of small farmers and fishers communities by developing and disseminating improved technologies, rehabilitating rural roads, promoting market access and promoting the sustainable management of fisheries. The global environment objective of the project is to promote the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity of coastal, marine and freshwater ecosystems, while supporting the livelihood and economic opportunities of the communities living in and around conservation areas. This objective will be pursued by strengthening the country's capacity to manage effectively and consolidate its protected area system.
