The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the 11th goal particularly relevant to cities. SDG 11 commits the world to making “cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.” Building on the SDGs, the New Urban Agenda (NUA) adopted at the 2016 Habitat III conference in Quito, Ecuador, sets out a 20-year road map for the sustainable urban development of cities and municipalities.
